adidas FOOTSCAN
What is the footscan?
The adidas FOOTSCAN® system is an unique state-of-the-art system pioneered
& developed by adidas-Salomon AG more than 13 years ago to analyze
the foot structure of a person as it comes in contact with any ground
surface.
How does it benefit the person?
This information will assist an individual to better understand :
· the foot structure ( normal, flat or high arch foot )
· the biomechanic behavioral pattern of the foot when it comes
in contact with any ground surface.
· The pressure point & the high impact area of the feet
· The degree of pronation or supination
· Relating to the type of foot complication they are experiencing
& drawing the attention to probable foot injuries in the future
· Selection of the proper pair of shoes.
Why is it important to Malaysians?
This system is useful for the Malaysian society because the evolutional
changes in the environment in which our society live and conduct their
daily activities be it social, commercial, recreation or domestic are
all done on flat, hard & unnatural surface. Our natural foot is neither
designed nor created to adapt to these surfaces. We have young people
now complaining of foot problem and if this phenomenon is not checked,
70% of the population will be complaining of collapsed arch in the next
20 years.

NORMAL FOOT
The foot normally lands on the outside of the heel & rolls inward
slightly to absorb shock. People with normal feet tend to wear out
the soles both the outer heel area & the inner forefoot area of
the shoes fairly evenly. They normally dont face too many injuries.
They can ideally wear most of the shoe type but the most recommended
are those that provides stability & cushioning.

FLAT FOOT
The long inside arch is completely collapsed & the soft tissue
under this area bulges out. A flat foot usually indicates an over-pronated
foot, where the force on the foot strike is on the outside of the
heel & rolls inwards excessively. This may cause excess stress
to the ankle, knee & lower-back. Those with flat foot will notice
their shoes tending to wear mostly on the inside of the forefoot area.
It is recommended that they wear a motion control shoes with dual
density foam posting along the medial side of the shoes.

HIGH ARCH FOOT
The longer arches are much higher than a normal foot structure &
as a result of its rigidity the arch does not collapse to touch the
ground. The joints are tight that the normal shock absorbing capacity
is significantly reduced requiring more impact protection. Those with
high arch find their shoes tending to erode on the outside of the
heel & the forefoot area. The require shoes that provides cushioning
with stable heel to stop the outwards roll.
