  adidas FTAAA Pacesetters 4 x 3km Road Relay 2005 - Post-Event Report

The 5th Edition of the adidas FTAAA Pacesetters 4 x 3km Road Relay has recorded an impressive response from the runners with 208 teams registered, 38 more than the 170 recorded in 2004.

And they're off! A record number of runners hitting the road this year

Among the registered teams are 32 teams from Pacesetters, the joint organizer and 9 teams from adidas who are defending champions in 6 categories. The introduction of the Men Senior Veteran category has induced a strong representation from the Kuala Lumpur Association of Veteran Athletes with 5 teams; 3 teams in Men Senior Veterans and 2 teams in Men Junior Veterans. There is also positive response from the Government Departments with teams from the Employee Provident Funds and the Police Di-Raja Malaysia. The private sector’s representation comes from Mandarin Oriental Sports Club taking part in the Men and Women Open.

The two schools with the most entries are Sekolah Sri Sentosa and Chung Hwa Independent High School in the youth categories. The Varsity Categories will see University Putra, International Medical University and University Malaya in action. The Varsity Categories are very encouraging with a total of 20 teams in the Men and Women. The two largest categories are the Men Open and the Boys Senior, recording 51 teams and 49 teams respectively. In view of the strong response from these two categories, the organizers decided that eight sets of prizes are awarded for these two categories instead of five sets.

The entries are:

1. A Men Open –51 teams
2. B Men Junior Veteran – 22 teams
3. C Women Open – 20 teams
4. D Women Veterans –9 teams
5. E – Boys Junior – 23 teams
6. F Boys Senior – 49 teams
7. G Girls Junior – 14 teams
8. H Girls Senior – 10 teams
9. J Men Senior Veterans – 10 teams

(Note: the Varsity Category is competed with category A and C as an event within an event method)

All in all there is a fair representation from different sectors; schools, universities, government department, clubs and the private sector. In short the event has achieved its original objective of encouraging team participation in a middle distance event. In view of the positive response, the title sponsor, Adidas has decided to expand the total entries from 200 to 216 subject to a specific cap in each category.

The Adidas FTAAA Pacesetters 4 x 3km Road Relay 2005 is divided into 11 categories as listed above. The event is on 19th June 2005 at Majlis Sukan Negara Track at Bukit Jalil. The title sponsor is Adidas, an international brand in footwear and sports apparel. The main sponsor is Milo, an established brand in fortified food drinks with Powerbar, with 100PLUS as the co-sponsor. The Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association and Pacesetters Athletic Club, Malaysia are joint-organizer for this event. Tan Sri Mohd Amin Osman, President of FTAAA, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, General Secretary of the Olympic Council of Malaysia and Mr. Darren Choy, Managing Director of adidas (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd were present to flag off the run and gave away the prizes.
